Customer Review: At Last-- A Slow Cooker that Works!

After two slow cookers which boiled everything on Low, had handles that broke off, and crocks that cracked, I had about given up. My family and I love slow-cooked convenience and flavor, though. After reading all the great reviews on this DeLonghi, I decided to take a chance one more time. I've had this slow cooker about 6 weeks now, and can't say enough good about it. I love that on Low, the contents actually simmer. After 8 hours (or whatever the recipe calls for), everything is done perfectly, the meat is fork-tender, and the vegetables still tasty. While the procedures for setting the various options on the electronic control panel differ slightly from those in the manual, they were still easy to figure out. I made several recipes that came with the slow cooker, and all were delicious. I like the handles on the side of the heating unit--they don't get hot and are easy to grip. I did discover that if you pick up the crock (while hot) to transfer the contents to another container, if you are using hot pads, the crock can slip and a hot spill can occur. This happened to me the first time I used it; the next time I realized that the crock handles aren't all that hot and that with care, I could lift it up bare handed. This slow cooker has a pleasing appearance, although in my French Country style kitchen, it looks a little ultra-modern. Overall, I am quite pleased with this slow cooker, and the fact that it performs just like it should is the best part of all. Considering the other choices out there and their quality (or lack thereof), the DeLonghi is a great value.
