I received the DCM485 as a gift several years ago, and have been absolutely disappointed with every step of ownership. For starters, it is very difficult to program the clock and automatic timer. The unit is difficult to clean without using expensive coffeemaker cleaning solutions (which I do advocate, just not daily!), and the coffee is just so-so. The unit is not intuitive - after 4 years of use I still refer to the instructions regularly. My other big beef is that replacement water filters are not widely available, and when I called the company to order them they were backordered for over 6 months. Very frustrating. After trying 2 different mr coffee makers , including their newest model and trying cuisinart, I readabout this delonghi. There are many bad reviews listed, but i bought it anyway. what a great move. The carafe does not drip all over the table as some say, just line up the arrows.Being able to fill the removable water container at the sink is much easier than trying to pour water into the top of the maker as most are designed. I make my coffee around 6 in the morning, at noon the coffee is still hot in the carafe I use paper filters instead of the gold filter which comes with it. remove the paper filter and grounds and your all set. I highly recommend the DeLonghi DCM485! But order it from amazon, not from Starbucks. great difference in price now it is a month later and I have to state that I was wrong. The pot does leak all over when pouring, and if you leave water in the plastic container over night you will get a plastic taste in your coffee. I am now looking for an electric percolator that uses paper filters. as far as my review earlier i made a mistake, i would not recomend this to anyone. whern i find a percolateor i will junk this oneCustomer Review: Leaves a Huge Mess

This coffee pot makes good coffee, however, at least once a week we awake to a huge mess on the kitchen counter. Coffee grounds spew out the back and run down our island leaving a terrible mess to clean. Coffee is everywhere. Not what you want to deal with at 5:30 AM!Customer Review: What a mess!!

I have had this coffee maker for about a year. When it is working properly, it does make a good cup of coffee. However, the caraffe drips coffee all over the counter when you pour coffee into a cup. My biggest complaint is that our machine somtimes just brews coffee all over the floor. You just never know when the coffee is going to end up in the carafe, and when it is going to end up all over the kitchen. In fact, it works perfectly. I followed the directions, and even though there may be some defective ones out there, mine worked just fine. The coffee's taste was what I was worried about, and it tastes 100%. It may not heat up to your standards, but I never heat my coffee up enough to scalding temps, and when this machine is done, the coffee, in my opinion, is very hot. I will give it five stars, not because it is a perfect machine, because obviously people are having problems with it, but because when I bought it, it exceeded my expectations, and then some. The coffee pot included has a strange design that I don't care for, and it is in no way efficient. But five stars to even out the naysayers.
