Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DeLonghi Esclusivo DCM485 10-Cup Thermal Carafe and Coffeemaker, Brushed Stainless Steel

Customer Review: It makes a pot of coffee, but that's all it does.
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought mine at one of the bignamed coffee shops. Even at their 'discounted' price it was over-priced. From the looks of it, it was a repackaged unit. No instructions at all. I still can't figure out how to use the clock/timer. The carafe doesn't keep the coffee hot for any decent length of time. When I try to pour a cup of coffee from it, it just dribbles out so slowly that I just unscrew the top completely and then pour it. I can't find any replacement water filters for it. The store is no help at all. A sort of 'take-the-money-and-run' sale. All in all, it is wayyyy overpriced and doesn't make any better coffee than those in the $40-$45 range. The only reason I still have it is, I'd lost the receipt and altho I -used- to be a regular customer at this overpriced coffee shop, (starbucks,) once I'd bought it, they were of no help with any of the issues I'd encountered. They couldn't even explain how to set the clock.
Unless I'm having someone over, I use my small, single-cup, black and decker $19.95 coffee maker. It's much quicker, easier to operate, and the coffee, no matter which brand, comes out tasting just as good.

Customer Review: BEWARE: DeLonghi does NOT stand behind their warranty!
Summary: 1 Stars

Although their coffeemakers do an excellent job of making coffee, DeLonghi WILL USE ANY EXCUSE NOT TO HONOR THE WARRANTY IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG! Here's my experience: When I ordered my coffeemaker from DeLonghi, it was "backordered" and took over a month to ship. A little over 10 months after I received it, the coffeemaker broke! (The heater coil went out and it would no longer make coffee.) Since it had been over a year since I ORDERED it, they said the one-year warranty was expired, despite the fact I had proof I had received it less than a year before (I still had the shipping confirmation). I explained this numerous times. For a couple of months, the various people I talked to kept telling me they would "look into it", but they never called back. Finally, when it actually WAS over a year since I had received the coffeemaker, when I called to check on the status of my warranty claim, they said, "Your warranty has expired. You've had this coffeemaker over one year. There is nothing we can do." I highly recommend you find a coffeemaker from a manufacturer that stands behind their product! I have a Cuisinart now, and it is WONDERFUL!

Customer Review: water filter
Summary: 5 Stars

We are very pleased with this coffee maker, but I have a question. What is the trick to pushing the water filter holder down into place? Isn't it supposed to go all the way down? I have average-size female hands, but have trouble getting my hand down into the water reservoir. The instructions do not address this procedure. Help!

Customer Review: Used Coffermaker
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this coffeemaker for my boyfriend. When I opened the box you could tell that the item had already been removed. When I took the coffeemaker out, to my surprise, there were still grounds in the filter area. Needless to say I was disappointed that I received a "used" coffeemaker. I promptly returned the coffeemaker and purchased another at a local store.

Customer Review: Great Coffee, Imperfect Design
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the DeLonghi DCM485 after reading reviews on all the other thermal carafe coffee makers I could find. My wife and I are quite pleased with the quality of the coffee this unit brews. Keep in mind that we are somewhat coffee "snobs", at least that's how my Mom views us :-) .

The unit has one flaw, at least ours does. On occasion, the switch that interrupts coffee flow while brewing (so you can sneak a cup before brewing is complete) would stick, resulting in coffee flowing all over the countertop. With another coffeemaker, I would have returned the unit and purchased another model. I decided to jerry-rig the switch so it stays open because we really do like the coffee from this machine.

Were it not for that glitch, I would give this product 5 stars. No one else seems to have reported this problem, so perhaps we were just unlucky.
