Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DeLonghi Esclusivo DCM485 10-Cup Thermal Carafe and Coffeemaker, Brushed Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Mixed feelings
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and yes we are having the dripping problems. I called Delonghi and they sent the rubber seal for the lid, that didn't work. I called them again and I told them I bought it at Amazon. They said that Amazon probably had an older design of this product. Maybe Starbucks has a newer model? They are sending me a new "redesigned" maker. I am a bit irritated because you have to cut the cord from the machine pay to mail it, and also send them a shipping and handling check for $7.50. I know $7.50 isn't a big deal but it is more of the principal since it is under warranty. I should be getting the new one in a few weeks, I will write a review about that one.

The sleek design and removable water tank are great. The coffee stays warm (not brewed hot) throughout the day, but I put cream in me coffee so I have to nuke it for about 20 sec. The coffee doesn't have the burnt taste of a conventional hot plate. The timer is stupid. Makes a great cup of coffee. As far as what else is out there, the market for thermal carafes is pretty limited. You can buy it but I would not be surprised if you have problems.

Customer Review: Great Tasting Coffee - Poor design
Summary: 3 Stars

I got this coffeemaker at Starbucks. The machine was on sale since they were not going to carry it anymore. It makes great tasting coffee, never had any problems with spills or leaks. Love the fact that you can pull out the water reservoir to fill. The water filter is great since our water is horrible tasting. Coffee is hot for drinking (I take it black) but once I transfer it to my insulated mug to take to work the temperature drops quickly. Also love that I can control the coffee strength.
PROBLEM: after two weeks the machine quit on me. The buttons became stuck and there was no turning it on to make coffee. The buttons were lit so they were receiving power but were despressed in and stuck. I promptly returned the unit to Starbucks for a refund. I didn't see anyone else in these review complain about stuck buttons, so maybe mine was a fluke.

Customer Review: Not worth the coffee grounds it spews all over your counter
Summary: 1 Stars

this is with out a doubt the work kitchen appliance I have ever spent money on. I bought this to replace an old Cusineart coffemaker that I had had for 5 years.

While I concede this is a great looking coffemaker, it does not make a good cup of coffee and at least once a week, for no apperent reason it spews coffee grounds and water all over the counter.

I am not sure what I am going to do with this thing, I would feel guilty giving it to goodwill, it just wouldn't be charity.

Customer Review: Warm and Tasty
Summary: 5 Stars

I must say this coffee maker brews a nice Java...it also does it quietly. The timer is great. I read the pouring was a problem but as long as your nerves are calm and your in no hurry, it flows just fine... good to look at and a great price at $115.

Customer Review: OK Coffee - bad support, so so design
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a decent coffee maker and makes reliably OK coffee. I have 3 complaints:

1. I can't find replacement water filters ANYWHERE. Yes, it works without them, but having a "feature" taht is unsupported after the first 60 days (you get 1 in the box) is simply annoying and reflects indifference to customers.

2. It is impossible to get the last tablespoon or so of water out of the carafe when you clean it because of the design of the lip. This is unsanitary.

3. Can't turn the preset clock backwards. This is a nuisance because when you want to set the timer for 15 minutes earlier you have to scroll through the whole day.

Given the moderate cost, it's OK, but not great.
