I bought three of these heaters for chilly places in our forced air heated house. The heaters take up very little space, can be wheeled and repositioned and really supply good heat. Amazon's price was by far the best of any Internet site or bricks & mortar store. A great combination of esthetics and functionality. This model was highly rated in my Consumer's magazine and I bought the units because they are energy efficient.Customer Review: Heater failed within one day

Previous reviewers have done a good job of describing the excellent and mostly silent heating operation of the Delonghi Mica Panel heater. I purchased 2 of these from Home Depot. and mounted them on drywall walls using the included fittings.
One of the heaters failed rather spectacularly within one day of use. It was set on the 1500w ("2") setting and the wall receptacle was controlled by a separate power switch. When the heater was switched on for maybe the 3rd or 4th time big sparks and momentary flames erupted from the middle of the elements. The sparks stopped so I left the unit on to see what it was going to do. It continued to heat up but was not using all of the elements. After approximately 5 minutes it shut itself down, perhaps due to its overheat protection circuitry and then would not work again. I removed it and will return it to the store.
The second unit has been used a few times and seems to be operating as designed. As others have mentioned there is a short period of expansion noise as the heater initially warms up. This noise was MUCH more noticeable on the defective model than on the one that I am continuing to use. I have to suspect that there are quality control problems in the Chinese manufacture of these heaters.
(If you do purchase one be sure to follow the instructions about "cooking" off the noxious coating that emits the smell when the unit first heats. This took an hour with one unit and more than that with the unit that failed.)

I purchased this item in November of 2007. So, I have had it one year. I loved it because it met my needs and delivered on promises!
But today "the lights are on but nobody is home" so to speak. I have no idea what made it stop working. I looked for a reset button of some sort, but alas nothing and customer service could offer me nothing as it had been too long. :( I am most unhappy and will probably buy another one--but from a different manufacturer this time.

We have had this heater for a week now and love it. It has been wheeled from room to room (large bedroom, small office, kitchen, living room) and done the job consistently in all spaces. Very quiet and heats up quickly. Although it warms the room, it is still cool enough to touch which is good if you have small children. The wheels make it easy to move... but it is also extremely lightweight for carrying up and down stairs. I think my only complaint would be it is hard to tell from across the room if it is on or not. The orange light only seems to indicate power to the unit, not on/off status. Also, it is difficult to change the settings in the dark since there is no digital or lit display for the knobs. I bought two of these heaters and they keep my house toasty, my gas heat does not even kick on, I just love them, I bought them from Home Depot for $79.99, and I should have looked on Amazon first this is the cheapest I have seen them, I never had a smell when I turned them on, they are quiet and give off alot of heat, I have 6 birds and bought them to keep them warm at night but found out that they will save me money on my heating bill this winter, it was the best buy I ever made. I recommend these to everyone of my friends, best space heater I have found so far.
