Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Delonghi ICK8500 Ice Cream MakerCustomer Review: Really Works! Best Ice Cream Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for my daughter for Christmas thinking that she'd be thrilled since she's an ice cream addict. Instead she just looked at me and told us that we know "that's she's lazy, and won't take the time to use it". So after I recovered from her disappointed looks at me, I opened it and used it, and it makes great ice cream. I won't put raw eggs in though for fear of Salmonella. But with the help of Ben & Jerry's ice cream book, I'm a happy camper. BTW, even though my daughter admits to her lazyness, she still managed to go through the ice cream. Miracles do happen.
Description of Delonghi ICK8500 Ice Cream MakerDelonghi 1.5 quart Ice Cream maker, serves 6-10 people. Ice cream is ready to service in just 20-30 minutes. Built in cooling compressor eliminates the need to "freeze" bowl prior to making ice cream. Patented double-effect paddle. One paddle automatically adjust to fit the width of bowl. The second paddle operates in the opposite direction, for thoroughly mixed ice cream that's always at the perfect temperature. This unique desgin also makes ice cream faster than standard units. This DeLonghi ice cream maker trims away the labor-intensive elements of making ice cream at home. The unit features a double bowl construction--hard anodized aluminum inside 18/10 stainless steel--so you can make one batch after the other or store a single batch in the freezer. It has a 1-1/2-quart capacity and takes from 20 to 40 minutes to make a batch. DeLonghi?s patented double paddle keeps temperature consistent throughout the bowl and thoroughly mixes ingredients. When the ice cream has reached a finished consistency, the dasher rotation reverses direction. The machine also has separate chilling and mixing controls, so you can continue to chill ice cream to your desired temperature. A clear lid lets you monitor the progress of your dessert and easily add ingredients like chocolate chips, berries, or nuts. One of the best detail features of this maker is its removable digital timer--just put it in your pocket and you can be in any part of the house or yard while the ice cream does its thing. DeLonghi also includes a handful of starter recipes for ice cream and gelato. Relatively compact for an appliance of this type, the unit measures 13-1/2 by 9-1/2 by 10-1/4 inches. It comes with a storage lid for the removable bowl and an ice cream-scooping spatula. --Emily Bedard
